In this DVD training, Dr. Kisthardt highlights key concepts that serve to guide and direct strengths‐based, person- centered case management. These include the promotion of normal interdependence, citizenship, partnership, mutual expectations, reciprocity, collaboration and shareddecision making. He will also share alternative concepts for the traditional understanding of “motivation”, “problem”, and “change.” Through this training, Dr. Kisthardt hopes that you will gain a deeper understanding of the key concepts related to the purpose of helping in strengths‐based case management, and learn the particulars of the Strengths Assessment and how to effectively utilize it in your work with people. Program Presenter: Walter Kisthardt, PhD has been involved in the research, dissemination and training of the Strengths Model of Case Management for over 25 years. He has worked with state policy makers and direct service providers in 43 states, in England, and New Zealand.Dr. Kisthardt has provided training and technical assistance in Missouri with several mental health programs and provided statewide training in Missouri’s Futures program. He has also consulted with the Division of Children’s Services in Jackson County, and has provided training, technical assistance, and researched the impact of strength-based case management with the homeless in the greater Kansas City area. Currently, he is providing training for substance abuse counselors, mental health therapists, case managers, and community corrections officers in Kansas who work with people who struggle with co-occurring disorders. Dr. Kisthardt is a Chair and BSW Program Director at Park University.Contact Hours: The University of Missouri– Columbia Missouri Institute of Mental Health (MIMH) will be responsible for this program and maintain a record of your continuing education credits earned. The Missouri Institute of Mental Health will award 1 clock hour or 1.2 contact hour (.1 CEU) for this activity. The MIMH credit will fulfill Clinical Social Work and Psychologist licensure requirements in the State of Missouri.
